Neuromuscular Treatment

Every child’s condition varies in severity and goals for treatment. Your orthotist will talk with you about specific goals such as enhanced mobility, support for bone and spinal structures, and we’ll work with your physician and therapist as part of your allied healthcare team to achieve the best possible outcome.

Frequent solutions are:

Lower Limb Orthoses.

A wide range of rigid and semi-rigid orthoses that vary from shoe inserts, Ankle Foot Orthotics (AFO), Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics (KAFO) to Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics (HKAFO)

AFO – Ankle Foot Orthotic or AFO is an excellent way to improve ankle movement, foot alignment and gait correction. Often used for Drop Foot, AFOs can also be sued for additional ankle and foot stability when ligaments and foot misalignment contribute to instability.

KAFO – Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics are long-leg orthotics that support the knee, ankle and to stabilize the joints and assist the muscles of the leg.

HKAFO – Hip Knee Ankle Foot Orthotics are the same as a KAFO but with an extension of hip and pelvic components and provides more stability to the hip and lower torso. HKAFOs provide pelvic stability and help to align the hip and lower leg beneath.

Spinal Orthoses

TLSO – Thoracolumbosacral orthoses or TLSOs are rigid braces that are used to correct the lateral (sideways) curve of the spine. TLSOs can help improve stability, balance as well as improve control of the extremities, neck, head and torso. TLSOs come in many shapes, colors and styles
